The 85th Annual ACADEMY AWARDS® are nearly here, and the twitter-sphere is buzzing with anticipation. You may recall, the OSCARS® had seen declining numbers in viewers until they began to incorporate Social Media into their promotional efforts. This year, advertisers are banking on Seth MacFarlane and social media to engage younger OSCAR viewers on Sunday Feb, 24th 2013. They could look to the GRAMMY Amplifier® for inspiration. GRAMMY Amplifier gave aspiring musicians a chance to get their music in front of some of the industry’s biggest icons who will tweet and share with millions of their fans. Something else they can learn from is the Grammy’s use of hashtags. Of course it wouldn’t hurt to have Jay-Z crack a few jokes (highest tweets-per-minute moment).
The Academy Awards 2013 social media strategy includes the Stumble the Oscars Web site, which made it possible for a lucky fan to win tickets to the Oscars Red carpet. The site was integrated with the StumbleUpon Web browser functionality and provided OSCARS related lists. While a Facebook Web based game allows you to predict the winners and challenge your friends, the OSCARS® app will play the supporting role at our annual OSCAR NIGHT® party.
