Web based font serving

Currently when styling websites you have to be careful which font to use because every user has a different set of fonts on their machines. Typekit is a subscription based service that allows you to use their library of fonts to style your website text by sending each visitor the required fonts. Once you sign up all you need to do is add a line of javascript and style your page as normal using css to specify which typekit font to use.

Cons:

  • They have a limited library of custom typekit fonts
  • Lacking standard fonts like Helvetica Neu, Futura, etc…
  • Don’t think there’s a way to use the font in other programs like flash, photoshop, etc…
